A short film has been made at Creetown Initiative about the future redevelopments of the Barholm Arms, with a little help from some of the Creetown Senior Youth Club members. The film charts the future redevelopment plans of the building, which has been made possible thanks to a substantial grant of £730,000 from the BIG Lottery’s Growing Community Assets fund.
Due to commence in the new year, the capital renovation of the derelict pub will see a much loved building transformed into an Enterprise Centre. Although some may be sad that the Barholm Arms will never reopen again as a public house, the simple fact is that country pubs cannot be sustained in multiples in rural areas, especially when price competition is high from supermarkets. Rather than being converted into dwelling houses or flats, it was the community’s wish to redevelop the building into a community asset; something that will help bring in visitors to the village, provide employment and opportunities for local people and the Enterprise Centre will do just that!
During the building works, we will be updating the website and Ferry News Letter with photographs and short videos, so please keep checking back to witness the transformation!
