Cairnryan Community Action Plan

Cairnryan

Creetown Initiative staff are delighted to be working with Cairnryan community to produce a community action plan for the village. Cairnryan is a small village, 6 miles north of Stranraer, in Dumfries and Galloway.

The community of Cairnryan is in benefit of two annual wind farm funds. The Cairnryan Community Council established the Cairnryan Community Fund to distribute the funds via a panel of local residents. It was identified that a more strategic approach to grant making could have a longer lasting impact on the local area and as such, the Panel decided to go to tender to find a consultancy or individual to undertake the development of an action plan for the community. Creetown Initiative was the successful applicant and will carry out the work over the spring and summer months.

Creetown Initiative will undertake a thorough community consultation to obtain an in depth understanding of the needs and wishes of the community. Every household in the community council area will receive a paper questionnaire and there will be face-to-face drop-in opportunities for residents and community groups to speak with Creetown Initiative staff and convey thoughts on life in Cairnryan and what improvements might be made. The information gained from the consultations will feed into the development of the community action plan, in addition to research and will be utilised to identify key themes, priorities and actions.
